In family law cases, most people plead the case to a judge instead of a jury. The family court judge makes the final decision in custody disputes, child welfare, divorce or alimony. Experienced judges could show the trends of ruling certain cases. As a result, requesting a different arbiter could sometimes be a good idea. Nevertheless, every state and its family courts have different rules.
